Founded by filmmaker and writer Margaret Lu in 2025, Materna Pictures is a film and television production house based in New York, New York and Los Angeles, California. Materna Pictures is committed to producing artistically distinctive, intellectually engaging, and emotionally resonant material for a global audience.
MARGARET LU
Founder Margaret Lu is a filmmaker and the apprentice of filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola. Margaret was born in Shanghai, China and raised in Vancouver, Canada. In 2018, she became the world’s youngest translator of William Shakespeare as an official published translator of the play “Macbeth”. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania magna cum laude with a double major Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature and Political Science, along with a minor in Cinema and Media Studies. Margaret lives in New York and Los Angeles. Her two feature films will premiere in 2026.
